the PROOF...

Whistler is awesome is a blog about the happenings and going-ons in and around Whistler. They asked me to submit some images and answer some questions about me,  my lifestyle, art, daily chores, etc.  Click on the link and take a sneak-peek inside my studio, my day, my life.

Right back at 'er

Vince dog and I arrived back in Whistler early Sunday morning (7AM) from our tattooing vacation to Revelstoke, BCand got back to work unpacking the van, tidying up the studio and getting things ready at Black Ohm Tattoos for work this week.

Last night I met with Liz of BassCoastProject and Andy Dittrich to discuss building one of the stages,  which I got to design.  We are all so excited about bringing one of my characters to life this year.   If you were ever wondering about BassCoastProject,  get your ass down to Squamish Valley this year and check it out.   It is going to be THE music festival to be at this summer.

Whistler Arts Councill is hosting "Artwalk" Thursday night at various venues in Whistler village.   I will be walking about with Vince dog checking out the art and the people.

Friday, August 5th is the Function Junction block party...  where local businesses host different artists and their art work.  As well as the art there is going to be food vendors and drinks flowing.
Myself, Arne Gutmann, Randy "RANDOID" Smith and The Incredible Amoeba are showing our artwork at the south end of Function across from Whistler Happy Pets, Whistlers only and best, pet food store.   So be sure to stop by and say hi to us Friday night.   You know there is going to be some sort of debauchery going down.

Revelstoke has been fun but...

It's almost time for me and Vinnie dog to leave and hit the road for the coast.   Thanks to all who got tattooed by me, and for asking when I will be back.   Thanks to all of you who made this trip worth while and special.

travels this summer

With this spring being so cold and lasting so long I am craving warmer weather,  I am craving summer.   The next few months are going to be full of travels for me and I like the idea of moving around some.

One week from now I will be going on a two week trip out to the lovely, laid back town of Revelstoke, B.C. to do some tattooing and mountain biking.   A week after I return to Whistler I am heading up the Squamish valley to help build one of the stages I designed for Bass Coast Project,   which by the way is happening on the very last weekend of July,  better get your ticket soon.  The weekend following that I will be heading to .Shambhala for a few days of fun in the sun and trees.     After that maybe a trip to the sunshine coast for a bit of biking.

Then a quick week long trip home to see the family,  and that will wrap up my summer travel plans...  all the while drawing and tattooing and creating art for a few art shows in the works for the fall

Busy, busy, busy

13 years of good and bad

Hard to believe it has been 13 years that I have been making SkullBoy stickers in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.  13 years of handing out stacks of stickers to friends who have gone out over the world traveling,   all of us peeling and sticking,   trading them for drinks,  trading them for food,  trading them for weed and giving them away for smiles.    Some friends went to Australia, to New Zealand, others drove across Canada, others down the west coast to Mexico, Peru, Chili and some flew to England, Germany, Sweden and Russia.   Peeling and sticking, peeling and sticking.
I took a walk the other day and saw the first sticker I ever peeled and stuck in Whistler,  it's still up there.
To commemorate my 13 years I am working on a t-shirt design.   it won't be available in stores.  Like the stickers it will be available through me.    I will post the design when finished, but for now you get a sneak peek at the design...

I will post pics of the printing process and the finished shirts.

Painted Skull

In case some of you didn't know,   I have a whole bunch of skulls at my studio,  I found many of them and others were gifted to me by friends or people in the know.
One such find was a black bear skull from the woods around Whistler.   It must be from a yearling as it isn't very big.
A few months ago I felt inspired to paint it...   so with a couple friends in mind I created this...

green thumb

So some of you may know that I have been (gorilla) gardening for close to ten years in Function Junction,  where I live in Whistler.   My friend Brian Forbes and I built our first garden on the edge of the swamp on the outskirts of Function which was a pretty sweet location as it was self watering,  the only downside of it was the amount of slugs that ate the veggies we were trying to grow for ourselves.   Forbes had to get back surgery one year and moved back East to recover leaving me to tend the plot myself,  and battle the army of slugs,  which in the end proved to be too much for one person.    So I let nature overrun that garden,  which is still beside that swamp,  the damn slugs can have it  (as well as anyone else who has a green thumb,  there are some nice raised grow boxes filled with soil still there).
I moved to a new space in Function and have since built a new garden out back,  where there are no slugs,  and plenty of sunshine and shade.    I have planted mainly lettuces and kale,  berries and violas and chives,  and plan to plant a couple varieties of parsley.   It's mainly plants I intend to juice (in a juice blended with apples, ginger, beets, carrots, etc.) and for salads ,  which I normally buy but which I don't want to purchase anymore.
Yesterday I turned the soil, added manure and planted it.   Over the spring and summer and fall I will document the plot and share it with you.
These photos were taken yesterday after I planted and watered.
