green thumb

So some of you may know that I have been (gorilla) gardening for close to ten years in Function Junction,  where I live in Whistler.   My friend Brian Forbes and I built our first garden on the edge of the swamp on the outskirts of Function which was a pretty sweet location as it was self watering,  the only downside of it was the amount of slugs that ate the veggies we were trying to grow for ourselves.   Forbes had to get back surgery one year and moved back East to recover leaving me to tend the plot myself,  and battle the army of slugs,  which in the end proved to be too much for one person.    So I let nature overrun that garden,  which is still beside that swamp,  the damn slugs can have it  (as well as anyone else who has a green thumb,  there are some nice raised grow boxes filled with soil still there).
I moved to a new space in Function and have since built a new garden out back,  where there are no slugs,  and plenty of sunshine and shade.    I have planted mainly lettuces and kale,  berries and violas and chives,  and plan to plant a couple varieties of parsley.   It's mainly plants I intend to juice (in a juice blended with apples, ginger, beets, carrots, etc.) and for salads ,  which I normally buy but which I don't want to purchase anymore.
Yesterday I turned the soil, added manure and planted it.   Over the spring and summer and fall I will document the plot and share it with you.
These photos were taken yesterday after I planted and watered.
